Your Impactful Responsibilities

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will:

• Foster a Positive Work Environment: Collaborate with your team to achieve optimal results and actively communicate vital patient care information.
• Educate and Inspire: Teach students and new employees, sharing your knowledge and expertise.
• Participate in Initiatives: Engage in laboratory and organization-wide projects that enhance our services.
• Conduct Tests: Perform qualitative and quantitative tests using various analyzers and manual methods.
• Manage Workload: Organize tasks and set priorities to meet turnaround time expectations.
• Ensure Quality and Safety: Demonstrate competency in test systems, investigate discrepancies, and perform necessary calibrations and quality control checks.
• Optimize Resources: Adjust your schedule to meet departmental needs and utilize supplies efficiently.
• Pursue Growth: Seek opportunities for continual learning and suggest improvements to Standard Operating Procedures.

What We’re Looking For

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Experience

• One year of work or training experience in a hospital laboratory is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

To thrive in this role, you must meet certification eligibility upon entry and obtain one of the following within 18 months:

• Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP.
• Certified by American Medical Technologists (AMT).
• Certified by National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA).
• Specific certifications for HLA or Microbiology as detailed in the original description.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated competency in performing assigned tasks safely.
• Proficient in English for effective communication.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and workflows independently.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Basic computer knowledge for maintaining records.

Working Conditions

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will:

• Wear scrubs and business professional attire as required.
• Be available for on-call duties during emergencies.
• Possibly travel within and outside the Houston Metropolitan area.
