Department: West Campus - Center for the Arts Rate of Pay: $1,500.00 per production Closed Date: December 4, 2025; 5:00PM Arizona Time Position Summary The Sound Designer is responsible for the creation, selection, playback and amplification of all pre-recorded and live sounds for a theatrical production, including actors and musicians. Position Dates: February 23, 2026 - April 22, 2026 The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends. Duties and Responsibilities Set up speakers, amplifiers, microphones and other sound playback and amplification equipment Use existing equipment to create the best possible audience audio experience Make recommendations and arrangements for rental of supplementary sound equipment to enhance Work with the director to make artistic choices for ambient sound and practical sound effects for the production Work with the director, facility staff, and others to make artistic and technical choices for actor voice amplification, as needed Attend weekly production meetings (virtually or in-person) Attend designer runs and all technical rehearsals through the final dress rehearsal in-person Job Requirements High School Diploma or GED Have previous sound designing experience Be able to mix audio and work audio sound board Work with sound effects designer, actors, and director to create an ideal audio experience for the audience Preferred Degree in sound design or enrolled in sound design educational program The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities Ability to mix audio and work audio sound board Experience with large variety of audio equipment Physical Requirements Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
