Position Summary The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role includes troubleshooting mechanical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and conducting majority and minor repairs in compliance with manufacturer specifications, DOT requirements, and company standards. The Diesel Mechanic works closely with shop leadership to minimize equipment downtime and maximize fleet reliability. Key Duties & Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, steering systems, and electrical systems. Perform preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, and filter replacement. Troubleshoot and repair fuel systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, and suspension components. Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical and electrical issues. Order parts and maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections. Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized in accordance with OSHA standards. Operate various tools and equipment, including lifts, welders, grinders, and other repair tools. Test-drive vehicles and equipment to ensure repairs have been properly completed. Assist with emergency road service calls when needed. Communicate effectively with shop foremen, fleet managers, and equipment operators regarding needed repairs and timelines.
