Job Description

The RN Clinical Nurse Practice Specialist (CNPS) is an expert clinician with advanced education and training. They are responsible for applying expert knowledge, advanced assessment skills, and experience to a specific patient population, across the system. The CNPS serves as an educator, a consultant, and as a clinical expert. Responsible for ensuring the use of evidence-based practices are applied to achieve optimal quality, cost effective, patient focused outcomes across the three spheres of impact (Patient Care, Nurses and Nursing, Organization and Systems). The CNPS interacts with nursing staff to foster an organizational culture of inquiry while mentoring nurses to implement practices based on the latest evidence. Clinical Expertise includes providing clinical nursing expertise in area of nursing specialty, assessing and recommending education needs, providing staff support and guidance, identifying professional practice needs, enhancing process improvement, serving as a source of information on evidence-based practices, evaluating new evidence, identifying standards of practice, evaluating outcomes, leading technology integration, partnering in policy development, and participating in Shared Decision-Making Councils. Education responsibilities include consulting with leadership and educators, partnering on program creation, developing and providing nursing education, responding to community learning needs, sharing responsibility for learning programs, participating in Transition to Practice programs, and collaborating with academic partners. Leadership and Mentorship duties include serving as an influential leader, demonstrating critical thinking and emotional intelligence, mentoring clinical nurse educators, fostering a healthy work environment, participating in research projects, advancing nursing practice, creating accountable nursing care environments, and advocating for nurses. Requirements include a Masters Degree in Nursing (Doctorate preferred), 5+ years clinical experience, adult learner expertise, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, commitment to teamwork and professional development, current RN license in Illinois, current BLS or ACLS or PALS or Neonatal Resuscitation certification, eligibility to work in the US, and current or soon-to-be nursing specialty certification.
